Create a Mikrotik Hotspot Using EoIP Tunnel

How to Create a Mikrotik Hotspot without Connect Directly to AP Using EoIP Tunnel

How do I create a WiFi Hotspot Mikrotik where the Access Point (AP) it is not connected directly to its Mikrotik Hotspot Server? The question that comes to mind when trying to implement a WiFi Hotspot Mikrotik system where its AP scattered everywhere, with different locations (different buildings and different room). Besides the more difficult is all AP nobody is directly connected to his eth Mikrotik used as Hotspot Server.
As we know, if you want to make use Mikrotik Wireless Hotspot System, Access Point must be connected directly to the interface Server Hotspot, to be in the bridge with another interface if you want to use more than one AP. But in my case it did not seem workable, because the AP is under its Switch and Router other, so there are a few hops to get to the server hotspot.
But do not worry, because the problem can still be tricked. You do this by using Ethernet over Internet Protocol (EoIP) Tunneling.
What it EoIP Tunneling? Please read the explanation here: Build Tunnel with EoIP in Mikrotik .
So the concept is to create an interface EoIP on a Hotspot Server as the number of its AP. If there are 5 AP then we created 5 EoIP on Hotspot Server interface. In each of the AP also created an interface that leads to the EoIP Hotspot Server. So there will be communication point-to-point between the hotspot server with all the AP. For more details, please see the following picture:
Mikrotik EoIP
But wait, EoIP is MikroTik Proprietary (ownership) means that this protocol can only run / support on RouterOS alone and some kind of linux. If the AP you are using is not Mikrotik, the AP you can not make this EoIP interface.
So, if your AP eg using TP-Link, Dlink, etc. then created on the interface EoIP AP Router Mikrotik before it, which is directly connected with her. As in the example in Figure 1 floor above. The AP then made his mode Wireless AP Bridge, and on his Mikrotik EoIP and Interface eth to the AP in the bridge.
Okay, that’s enough bedtime stories her. Already started sleepy right ?? hehe..
Now we try to make a straight configuration without Mikrotik Hotspot Connect Directly to AP Using EoIP Tunnel.
Before you begin, make sure all APs and Mikrotik be made EoIP Tunnel was able to two-way communication. This means that the IP configuration and routing his own right. Because if not, EoIP tunnel will not be formed.
1. Create Interface EoIP number of AP used. Open Winbox, Go to Menu Interface -> Sign EoIP Tab -> Add EoIP
Here to note is the Remote column Address and Tunnel ID.
– Remote Address: IP Address stocked AP
– Tunnel ID: ID unique to the AP. Each AP Different ID.
Create EoIP interface in Server
2. Create interface AP EoIP side toward Server. Is the same as the above. With Remote IP address of the Server and Tunnel ID the same as those used in servers.
Create EoIP interface in Server

3. Perform steps 1 and 2 for all APs used.

4. In each of the AP / Mikrotik, create bridge and input interface and Wlan EoIP her.

Create Bridge in AP

4. On the Server Hotspot, Create Interface Bridge and give the IP Address.

5. Enter All Interface EoIP to port Bridge made earlier.

Create a hotspot and enter the port bridge

6. Create a Hotspot Server on IP menu -> Hotspot -> Hotspot Setup -> Select interface Bridge is used as an interface hotspot. For a guide to the steps on how to create a hotspot please read here: How to Create Mikrotik Hotspot: Hotspot Mikrotik basic settings

7. Up here, please try to connect to the AP, the hotspot login page should have appeared. If yet please check your configuration again.

8. At this point you can change its Hotspot Login page, as in the following article: How to Change the Mikrotik Hotspot Login page

9. You can also combine hotspot with Mikrotik User Manager for its user management. Read it here Tutorial: Setting User Manager with Hotspot Mikrotik

10. If you want to make WiFi Roaming System with 1 SSID, can be set on all AP for use 1 and Frequency same SSID.Thus Tutorial How to Make Hotspot Mikrotik without Connect Directly to AP Using Tunneling EoIP. May be useful 🙂
