Static Routing Settings on Mikrotik

The example of Static Routing Settings in Mikrotik – Static routing is to add a specific routing path manually. Mikrotik by default will create an automatic route routing when we add the IP address to the interface. Then why do we need static routing? Because to connect a network device that has a different IP segment (subnet) requires a device capable of performing static routing.

For example as in Figure 1 and Gambar2 where there are 2 routers that each router is connected to the network device.

A. LAN A — Router A — Router B — LAN B

From the topology of Figure 1 then we need to add IP address on each Ethernet interface in each router as in the following steps:

For Router A

Ip address add address = 192.168.1.1 / 24 interface = ether1

Ip address add address = 172.16.1.1 / 24 interface = ether2

For Router B

Ip address add address = 192.168.5.250 / 24 interface = ether3
Ip address add address = 10.10.10.1 / 24 interface = ether2

Ip address add address = 172.16.1.2 / 24 interface = ether1

In order for PCs to take Router A and Router B can communicate with each other need to add Static Routing on each Router.

For Router A

Ip route add dst-address = 0.0.0.0 / 0 gateway = 172.16.1.2
Ip route add dst-address = 10.10.10.0 / 24 gateway = 172.16.1.2

For Router B

Ip route add dst-address = 0.0.0.0 / 0 gateway = 192.168.5.1

Ip route add dst-address = 192.168.1.0 / 24 gateway = 172.16.1.1

B. LAN A —- A Router — Wireless Router A —- Wireless Router B — Router B —- LAN B

A. Configuration for Wireless Router A

If using Command line:

Wireless interface enable wlan1
wireless interface set mode = ap-bridge
wireless interface set band = 2ghz-b / g
Wireless interface set ssid = tes123

B. Configuration for Wireless Router B

If using Command line:

Wireless interface enable wlan1
wireless interface set mode =
wireless interface station set band = 2ghz-b / g
Wireless interface set ssid = tes123

From the topology of Figure 2 then we need to add IP address on each Ethernet interface and wireless interface in each router as in the following steps:

Install Ip address on router A

Ip address add address = 192.168.1.1 / 24 interface = ether1

Ip address add address = 172.16.2.1 / 24 interface = wlan1

Install Ip address on router B

Ip address add address = 10.10.10.1 / 24 interface = ether2
Ip address dd address = 172.16.2.2 / 24 interface = wlan1

In order for each PC that is intake Router A and Router B can communicate each other need to add Static Routing on each respective Router

Router A

Ip route add dst-address = 0.0.0.0 / 0 gateway = 172.16.2.2
Ip route add dst-address = 10.10.10.0 / 24 gateway = 172.16.2.2

Router B

Ip route add dst-address = 0.0.0.0 / 0 gateway = 192.168.5.1
Ip route add dst-address = 192.168.1.0 / 24 gateway = 172.16.2.1
